Tom Van Schaik
Robert Earl Keen
Tom has been part of the Robert Earl Keen band since
1997. Born in Claremont, NH, Tom's Family moved to Dallas where
he graduated from St. Mark's School and went on to earn a Bachelor
of music from the university of North Texas.
Tom began has professional
career at 16: playing clubs musical theatre and "any gig I could
get" around Dallas. Since then he has played with the likes of Jazz
guitarist Larry Coryell, Charlie Pride, Los Lobos, Janie Fricke,
Bo Diddley, B. J. Thomas, Ft. Worth/Dallas Ballet, Hank Thomspon
and the Platters, as well as numerous jingles and recording sessions.
Tom was the original drummer for the Dixie Chicks, touring and recording
with them for almost 6 years. Also active in Music education, Tom
has taught percussion at Nayarro Colllege and the Arts Magnet High
School in Dallas.
He has had several articles published in "Modern Drummer" Magazine and is endorsed by Promark Drumsticks, Mapex Drums, Sabian Cymbals and Aquarian Drumheads. Musically, he lists his influences as "Everyone and everything." From Mozart to Merle. From Miles to Moby. Away from music, Tom enjoys running gold and collecting and restoring antiques.
