Newest Mapex Endorser Ryan Long on MTV!

Ryan Long, drummer and vocalist for Canadian ska/punk group The Johnstones, rocked the MTV Live stage this past December. In a high-energy performance of three songs from the group’s debut album Word is Bond (Stomp Records/ Warner), Ryan showcased his dynamic style. As one of Mapex Canada’s newest endorsers, Ryan plays Mapex’s Saturn Series (3 piece configuration) in Electric Blue Sparkle along with the Black Panther G2 Tribal snare.

“First and foremost I have to rave about the Black Panther snare!” Ryan exclaims. “It gets the exact frequencies I’m looking for with minimal maintenance. Also, it looks cooler than any other snare and has that badass tribal design that everyone compliments.” Ryan is equally excited with his Saturn Series kit, “The Saturn drums are a great fit for me in that they are extremely loud. I have always been a huge fan of maple shells and you can feel the overtones and punch that you would be looking for in quick, punchy reggae hits. They are versatile, sound great in the studio, but most importantly for a live show, they have the power that a drummer like me is looking for!”

Ryan has been playing the drums since elementary school where he met his future Johnstones band mates. He picked up much of his reggae stylings in high school with influences from bands such as The Suicide Machines and Rancid, and also while touring with reggae ensemble, Well Charged. Ryan has been recognized for his aggressive speed, originality, versatility, and incredible showmanship.

After having released their debut album, Word is Bond in 2006, The Johnstones have been touring Canada. With their interesting blend of punk, ska, and hip-hop, they have played the Vans Warped Tour, the Frostbite Tour,and have quickly become one of the most predominant up and coming bands in Canada.
